Did you miss the quiet opening of Unity Plaza or even been on that side of the river to see the new vibrant area?
Love the Concept of Unity Plaza
The mission statement is to have free community activities 365 days a year. I heard that the Jacksonville Symphony was going to play and took my youngest son, I have never been able to get that close to an orchestra other than being in one but that is another story.
My son and I were laying on the fake grass and enjoying the sounds. The Amphitheater design was perfect for this event.
So I have not looked into the prices of the apartments there but I did see folks enjoying the performance from their balconies. The Brooklyn Area Development is one of many shining examples of Jacksonville progressing to a forward thinking city and it brings more residential downtown.
There are 2 Restaurants slated to be open soon. There are daily yoga classes to partake in.
They have also had all kinds of classes from Coding for kids to Rhythm meditation. you can check out the upcoming events here
I have to hand it to the Jaguars they can through a party. Now its not every day you get to walk on a NFL field let alone Party on it, and for Free, Get out.
I love that the Jaguars always try and keep the Kids engaged, I considered trying to get my oldest for the night and bringing him. I have over the years taken them to pregame parties, maybe this year we will do a game together.
So the drinks were overpriced as usual inside the stadium but the food deal was awesome. We were given the choice of a $15 wristband that allowed you to visit 5 tents or $20 and you could visit 10 tents. Wish I had not eaten all day the food was outstanding, and I still had the ability to go to another tent, but my stomach did not have the ability to hold more and make the walk back to the car. My favorite was Black Sheep http://blacksheep5points.com Braised beef with parm risotto and baby Brussels. Desserts galore as well have to give winning nod to Kilwins https://www.kilwins.com/Jacksonville hard to beat ice cream. well worth the $20.
That is just a snippet of the kind of street performing that is going on and there are stages a plenty, so be sure you pick up a schedule and plan accordingly. Seems there is more in the evening Thursday and Friday. Mosey and enjoy, not only are some of the ideas and concepts intriguing but there is a street party atmosphere about it all.
Bring Cash! There are more places for refreshments this year but I did notice that some where not taking credit. Seems that the amount of food trucks is up, and to think I was almost one of them.
Go Hungry! Bring an appetite, and eat before you leave. There are some top end and low end spectrum food selections. If you can’t find places you want to try your not a foodie. Look for lines, it is usually a sign that its worth the wait.
If your a drinker be sure to bring cash it was 50/50 on the out door bar scene at 1 Spark. Grab drinks when lines are small, not sure I will go over the weekend, but when your at a quarter beverage its time to get in line. If your a liquor drinker find a bar you like tip well and you should get taken care of. Please be careful and have a designated driver.
Plan your parking. It will take time getting to the event unless you want to pay for parking. The streets are all blocked off for One Spark which creates bottlenecks on other parts of downtown. Not to mention the extra amount of pedestrian traffic heading in to the Event. I recommend parking at the School board building and riding the Sky Way there its a short little walk. Then on the way back walk over the Main Street Bridge and down the refurbished River Walk and enjoy our River City.
Jacksonville has any water activity you could want!
