Jacksonville River Life

Jacksonville, FL known as The River City and is also affectionately called The First Coast, because of St Augustine and first landings happened on our coastline.  It always seems to surprise people when I tell them that Jacksonville has been in the top 20 places in the country to live if you love water sports.

I grew up here from the age of 2.  When I graduated High School I swore I would never come back, life has a funny way of proving your younger self wrong.  I returned in 2003 to find that Jacksonville was growing up several companies had moved in.  The Beaches were booming with construction and activity.  The Town Center was becoming the go to mall in the South Eastern US.  It was also the beginning of the downfall of the First Baptist Church’s domination of downtown which finished up this year with the Church selling off several blocks of downtown property.  Travelers will ask all the time why downtown is such a dud, the First Baptist Church was a big influence on that over the Decades.

One of the biggest influences in Jacksonville growing up was the city getting awarded the Jacksonville Jaguars.  It was a catalyst for some of the major business growth in the city.

If only the Jacksonville Jaguars looked this fierce on the field.

The river life  in Jacksonville offers everything you could ask for from a waterway. In the river you can find fresh to brackish/salt water fishing, great crabbing and good shrimping a couple times of year. From any of the rivers you can make your way off shore for fishing for the big stuff if that is your thing or like Shad Khan want to bring your Yacht into downtown.  Plenty of places on the river to enjoy being pulled by a boat whether on a Ski, Wake Board, Knee Board or tube.

Kayaking the Trout River
Kayaking the Trout River or anywhere in Jacksonville at Sunset is always a treat.
